It was yesterday that I saw Tangled.It wasn't the first time for me, but I thought I had to rewatch the movie in terms of changing my opinion. Bringing back old-fashioned disney after princess and the frog, made me feel as if I was a 5- year- old child again, watching a Disney's Renaissance movie. The last 7 years ( after brother bear) Disney wasn't inspired to make a Walt Disney film on its own, but other Great Films like Nemo (Disney Pixar). My point is, that I'm not a big fan of Disney- Pixar movies, and I love Disney Classics, so I was obviously happy about this movie.
To beggin Alan Menken is back. He is the man who wrote the music for The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Hercules, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The hunchback of Notre dame and more. The great ,academy award winner, composer composed great music for this movie. Some of the songs are still on my mind. One of them is "I see the light", the love song. Really romantic. As far as the villain song is concerned (Mother Knows best) I prefer the reprise because it was more epic. The healing song and When will my life begin and its reprise where nice,too Also, there was an enjoyable song in the tavern ( I got a dream).
The animation was stunning. Although I prefer the hand-drawing movies (2D) - Tangled was 3D- animatiors did a great job, so Congratulations on their work. Rapunzel's hair seems so shinny. Beautiful background scenes. When Rapunzel and Flyn, go to the town, the same day the lanters are released, Rapunzel and Flyn dance with other people, they paint, hind from the guirds. I think it was a clever scene and you might enjoy it as I did. The "I see the light" scene with the flying - lanters all over the boat, was magical. It reminded me of "Kiss the Girl" -Little Mermaid- a bit, but I liked this one more because of the colours.
As far as the characters are concerned,there isn't a single one I didn't like: Mother Gothel was evil but funny at the same time, Flynn was funny and despite he was a thief, he turned into a kind - hearted and selfless man, Rapunzel showed that a princess can save her prince (girl power), Pascal and Maximus are one of my favorite sidekicks, the people at the tavern are lovely, funny and good friends. There are some exceptions,though. The two thief guys (Flyn's allies) were dull to me and quite annoying. Rapunzel's parents was OK, although we don't have much of them.
All in all, this is a movie with both funny and sad scenes, with beautiful music and animation,good role models, funny, romantic and sad scenes, a nice introduction and an interesting story- different from this on the book. It may remind you of The hunchback of Notre Dame : Rapunzel -Quasimodo, Mother Gothel - Frolo, there are even some similar quotes " the world is cruel "etc.
Advantage- Bringing classic Disney Back
Disadvantage- The 3D animation instead of 2D, althouh I get used to it and I can't imagine watching the movie in a different way NOW.
What ages- I think everyone can see it, young and old, but they may be some horrifying scenes for children ( Flyn is wounded, Gothel's death).
